Spring break welcomed an amazing opportunity with a water polo training trip…to Athens, Greece! My first trip abroad – with some of my closest friends – truly a trip of a lifetime!
Nine athletes on our Diablo Alliance 18U team spent ten days travelling throughout the Athens area visiting amazing ancient ruins – all between morning training practices and evening games and competitions.
We had the privilege of working with European coaches, practicing at the Olympic stadium/venue, and training with Olympians Nikolaos Papanikolau and Dylan Woodhead. Each evening we played games with local club teams.
While in Athens, we visited the Parthenon on the Acropolis, the Temple of Poseidon, the first ever modern Olympic stadium (the Panathinaiko Stadium, built in the 1800s) and took a boat trip to the beautiful Island of Hydra.
It was an amazing experience and so interesting to get to see so much history that up until the trip I had only read about.
